Updates To 5th Edition

It happens every time. The day after we send the disks off to the printers for our brand new edition, somebody changes something that directly affects what we write in the book. Several times we've e-mailed these changes to the printers (it's our only chance to yell that classic publisher line, "Stop the presses!") but after the presses roll we're left shaking our heads, saying, "Yeah, we know that changed. We'll correct that in our next printing." The internet is the next best thing to yanking back all the books in print and scribbling in the changes that always occur.

The updates below are for the 5th edition of Maui Revealed. There are no longer any updates for previous editions on this site.

Did you know? At Wizard Publications we continually strive to bring you the most up-to-date and accurate information on the islands. We are the only publisher who updates our books every time we reprint them. So if you see the updates below already listed in the book you just bought, you may have a recent printing.

New Parking / Entrance Fees at State Parks: I'ao Valley (page 67) and Makena Beach Park (page 165)--the latter may not be charging at present, but will start soon-- are charging $5/per car or $1/per pedestrian to use facilities. Persons with Hawaii ID cards may enter at no charge.

This isn't really an update. People keep sending us e-mail asking us why the time-saving road linking Wailea with Kula upcountry isn't on our maps (though it is on other maps). At the risk of sounding self-serving, the other maps are wrong. As mentioned on page 136, that road is private, gated and not accessible.

Hawaii Nature Center (page 35) has closed indefinitely due to budget cuts.

Central Maui Farmers' Market (page 41) has moved from Maui Mall to Kahului Shopping Center. The Upcountry Farmers' Market moved to 3654 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao on Wednesdays starting at 10 am. Also on this page, Live Wire Cafe, The Morning Glories and The Coffee Store are pau.

Green Banana Café (page 41) has closed. Pa'ia Bay Café is now in its place and they still have internet access (both Wi-Fi and computers upstairs).

Old Lahaina Book Emporium (page 64) is closed.

Who Cut the Cheese (page 137) has moved to the new Wailea Gateway Center at the corner of Piilani Hwy and Wailea Ike Drive, and have changed their name to Guava, Gouda & Caviar.

Makoa Kai (page 177) Changed their phone number to (808) 661–0336. And Finest Kind changed their phone contact to (808) 214–8510.

Kapalua Golf Academy (page 182) changed their phone number to (808) 662–7740.

The Waihe'e Valley Trail (page 196) Wailuku Agribusiness now wants you to get a permit to do the hike. Otherwise, it's a no-go. Call them at (808) 244-9570 and see you can obtain a permit for hiking.

Ekahi Tours (page 207) is closed.

Prince Kuhio (page 208, 215, & 227) is currently out of commission.

Alii Nui (page 215) changed their phone number to (808) 875–0333.

Pacific Dive (page 221) is closed.

From the Island Dining chapter: the following restaurants have closed... Alexander's Fish, Chicken & Ribs, Cafe 808, Cascades Grill & Sushi Bar, Da Kitchen at the Wharf, Gian Dion's (reopened as Bocalina Bistro & Bar but we have not re-reviewed it yet), Greek Bistro, Juca Mexican Restaurant, Makena Grill, Maui Masala, Mulligan’s at the Wharf, Pauwela Cafe, Pretzelmaker, and Unisan, Wokstar.

Melting Pot (Island Dining Chapter) is temporarily closed, no date for reopening is currently planned.

Bamboo Grill (Island Dining Chapter in Island Nightlife) is closed.

Pavillion (Island Dining Chapter) changed its name to Umalu.

Honua'ula Lu'au (Island Dining Chapter) moved venues from the Wailea Marriott to the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa. We have not had a chance to review them yet at this new venue.

BJ's Chicago Pizzeria (Island Dining chapter) is now called Lahaina Pizza Company. Some changes may be in the works.

Spirit of Lahaina (page 287) is out of commission for now.

Aloha Pualani (where to stay chapter) closed as a vacation rental after 9 years. We wish them a fond aloha. You may find individual owners renting units on the web. Also gone is the Maui Sugar Beach Inn & Hostel.

Honokeana Cove (where to stay chapter) will be closing mid April of 2012 for renovations to the buildings for about 6 months.
